DELL, What You Thinking?

My wife ordered a new Dell notebook online and I was curious as to what model she had ordered and it's spec's. Me being a self-proclaimed geek and all, ha ha ha. So when we got it, a new Dell Inspiron mini 10v, model# 1011 notebook. First thing I saw was that it had no CD or DVD-Rom drive. It came with a "Operating System Restore" CD and a "DELL Drivers Restore CD", LOL. Now how strange is this. I couldn't believe this, Dell what was you thinking?

The site she had got it on gave her some additional software on a 2GB SD card for free. Now that's a plus, since it does have a SD Card Reader. But getting back to Dell's CD's, that's just unbelievable to me that Dell, would send CD's when the notebook has no CD/DVD-Rom drives. There has to be some mistake on Dell's end, I thought they would have at least placed a factory restore partition on the HDD, and ofcoarse they wouldn't do that. That would have been to easy for us buyers.

Now what Dell, did do was to give us:

  • Dell™ Inspiron Mini's are backed by a 1-year parts limited warranty and a 1-year in-home service plan featuring online and 24/7 phone support — all provided free of charge for the term of the warranty.

Meaning I assume, that Dell will come to our home and restore this miniature wander of ours back to it's original factory state when ever we need it for the 1st year. But my question is what about after that? Will Dell charge us a fee to come to our home or will we have to send it back to dell? Well we all know the answer to those No Dell will not come to our house and fix it without charging us or we will have to send it in to dell for repair and still pay a charge + shipping.

Concluding that if you the readers are planning on getting one of these, make sure you get an external CD/DVD-Rom drive to go with it. Otherwise you will be left out in the cold.
